With nearly 7.5 million inhabitants, London is one of the largest cities of the continent, so if you’re looking for a peaceful, quiet getaway, London isn’t the best match. If you’re looking for anything else, it probably is.
The river Thames crosses the heart of the city. Walk along the shores of the river to enjoy the city’s skyline at its best. The impressive Houses of Parliament, St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Big Ben, Ferris Wheel London Eye and Tower Bridge are located next to the Thames.
With over 200 million visitors a year, Oxford Street is one of the busiest shopping districts in the world, but London also has less crowded shopping locations. Visit Shoreditch, Spitalfields or Brick Lane for alternative boutiques of young, promising designers.
Most of the museums in London are free of charge, although most museums have temporary exhibitions that require a (small) entrance fee. Tate Modern boasts an impressive collection of modern art, but also offers a stunning view over the Thames. The National Gallery owns works of Rembrandt van Rijn, Picasso and Van Gogh, while The British Museum displays one of the largest historic collections of the United Kingdom.
Altough London is a very large city, the excellent public transportation takes you to nearly any place in the city relatively easily and quickly. So whether you want to visit the excellent museums, a few trendy fashion stores, iconic landmarks or a thriving nightlife – London is the place to be!
